Givens

William M. and Martha Jane Gordon Givens: William "U" Givens was listed as one who attended the first Sunday School in 1892 and Martha Givens was assigned to teach the intermediate class that same day. William M. Givens seems to be appropriate here because he married Martha Gordon, daughter of Moses Moore and Catherine Inman Gordon (q.v.). He was born October 20, 1850, in North Carolina to Robert and Elvira Farris Givens. The 1880 census showed him living in Kings Mountain, South Carolina. In 1900 he was in American Fork, Utah living with Martha and her father, Moses.

Martha was born April 10, 1859, and they were married April 22, 1891, in Logan, Utah. (Another marriage date of "about 1879" is given - possibly a civil marriage and the 1891 date was a Temple Sealing in the Logan Temple) In 1920 they were in American Fork and William died that year on June 4. Martha married George Slowther Shelten on December 18, 1924, and she died September 28, 1938. They are buried in the Lehi City Cemetery.
