John Randolph & Vesta Savallia Heaps Mangum
They moved into the Highland Ward in 1927 and he was listed as a Sunday School teacher that year but no other mention is made of them in Highland. John was born March 24, 1889, in Pahreah, Utah to Cyrus and Unity Alexander Mangum and in 1900 was living in Cannonville. Vesta was born October 17, 1889, in Escalante to Willard and Beatrice Twitchell Heaps. They were married December 15, 1909, in Garfield, Utah and sealed in the Salt Lake Temple April 26, 1911. In 1920 they were living in Escalante. John died in a mining accident in Bingham at the age of forty, May 6, 1929, leaving a widow and nine children: Maida, Randolph Lendon, Dana Heaps, Jordan Ceal, Uvas Stancel, Norman D, Onda, Oka and William Lavoy. In 1930 she was living in Midvale.

She married William Henry Milne June 4, 1936, and they continued to live in Midvale. He died April 19, 1963, in Salt Lake City and she died May 13, 1970. John and Vesta are buried in the Midvale City Cemetery. (Ed note: In October, 1963, I moved into Midvale and lived in the same Latter-day Saint ward as Vesta until September, 1969 - never knowing of the Highland connection.)
