Highland City has been actively monitoring the COVID-19 situation and planning and preparing for the impacts to our community. The City is taking steps to do it's part to limit the spread of COVID-19.
Beginning on Monday, March 16, Highland City the following safeguards will be in place. These precautions are scheduled through March 30, 2020. As the COVID-19 situation is ever evolving, the City will provide additional updates as more information becomes available.
City Hall
City Hall will be open for business as usual. However, if possible, we encourage residents to conduct their business with the City via phone at 801-756-5751 or online at www.HighlandCity.org. During this time, the City can take credit or debit card payments over the phone. Utility customers can also utilize the payment drop box located in the drive through north of City Hall. Additional safeguards such as limiting in-person meetings and extra cleanings and disinfection will take place at City Hall.
Public Meetings
Public meetings which are essential for City business such as City Council and Planning Commission will continue. As much as possible, the City will be livestreaming meetings on the City’s YouTube channel at http://bit.ly/HC-youtube and monitoring comments there. The City is encouraging all residents who wish to participate in those meetings to do so electronically or email their comments ahead of time to council@highlandcity.org or planningcommission@highlandcity.org.
Library
The Library is closed to patrons and all programs are cancelled. The Library will still allow for items to be checked out through an on-line/ over the phone system and patrons may pick up their items at the Library. All items will need to be returned through the book drop on the north drive through of the Library. The Library will also film and post some programs for online viewing. In addition, patrons are encouraged to utilize the Library’s vast e-book and e-audiobook resources on the Overdrive and RBDigital apps. More information on the Library’s plan will be posted shortly on www.HighlandCityLibrary.org.
Community Center
All events scheduled in the building are cancelled. Private groups who have rented the facility will receive refunds.
Lone Peak Fire & Police Stations
Station tours, presentations, CPR courses, and public fingerprinting are cancelled. If you need to speak to an officer, please call dispatch at 801-794-3970. For all emergencies, continue to call 911.
Events
No events are scheduled within this two-week window. Staff and the Council will continue to monitor the situation and will make determinations on future events at a later time.
Field Usage
Organizations who have rented one of our City fields should decide whether to hold their planned events. We encourage those organizations to follow the Governor’s recommendations to cancel any gatherings with 100 or more participants.
The City wishes to stress that fire and police emergency services and utility services such as culinary water and sewer will continue to function properly during this time.
To help our sewer system to operate effectively, please remember that the only items that should be flushed down a toilet are human waste and toilet paper. If anyone in your home uses any type of wipe including those labeled “flushable” DO NOT flush them down the toilet. They need to be disposed of in the trash otherwise we risk sewer back-ups.
We encourage all residents to follow the new recommendations of the Governor and the standby precautions regarding spreading illnesses:
- Do not attend mass gatherings of more than 100 people.
- If you are older than the age of 60 or are immunocompromised, you should limit your participation in groups of more than 20 at a time.
- Stay home if you are sick.
- Frequently clean your hands with soap and water or alcohol-based sanitizer.
- Avoid close contact with anyone experiencing flu-like systems.
- Cover your mouth and nose when coughing.
- If you live in or have recently returned from an area with ongoing spread of Coronavirus within the past 14 days, and develop a cough, fever, or difficulty breathing, call your healthcare provider.
